the mayfair theatre, ottawa

(when i get back to the alter-reality, something else will appear in this space.)

i was not at the montreal show, but i was at the ottawa show on may 31, 2010 - about a week before this one.

i should point out that they probably added this date on my request, as it wasn't initially in the tour schedule, but showed up after i requested it on their web site. i don't know if they recognized me from years past or not.

the set was actually in a movie theatre, for some reason - i can't tell you why that choice was made, but it was certainly an odd set-up. the monitors on one side shorted halfway through, they actually probably literally exploded, which landed me in the stairway for the second half of the set....

i missed them on the '13 blues' tour, and wasn't particularly excited about their newest release, 'kollaps'. as mentioned previously, they tend to predictably modulate between brilliance and mediocrity. but, the setlist was actually a good mix, and i did enjoy getting to hear some of the post-2005 material in a live setting.

fwiw, memoryhouse opened the show. they weren't memorable.

lost a friend to cocaine
couple friends to smack
troubled hearts map deserts
and they rarely do come back
lost a friend to oceans
lost a friend to hills
lost a friend to suicide
lost a friend to pills
lost a friend to monsters
lost a friend to shame
lost a friend to marriage
lost a friend to blame
lost a friend to worry
lost a friend to wealth
lost a friend to stubborn pride
and then I lost myself...

when the world is sick can't no one be well...
but I dreamt we was all beautiful and strong....
