the story with this show was that it was at the bar that didn't take my id because it was a little blurry, and i hadn't bothered to get a new id, yet. i really should have gotten a new id by this point, and would have certainly had one had i bothered to. this was just pure slacking on my behalf. i didn't want to buy a ticket, only to get told i'm underage; the plan was to wait and buy a ticket at the door and hope a different bouncer was working, unless the id came in before the show, in which case i'd get the ticket...
but, it sold out very quickly and there just simply isn't a comparable venue in ottawa to take it up to. so, i didn't end up going.
on the one hand, scallen probably should have known better than to book st. vincent in a ~400 person capacity bar. he should have known to book her at the nac or something (capacity: ~4000). on the other hand, i bet the people that got in enjoyed the small show; the reality is that a show at the nac is just not like a show in a small bar.
the situation pissed me off. st. vincent wasn't like a lot of these other shows i had been going to - i was actually a fan going back a few years. but, it was my own fault.
fwiw, the id came in the day after the show.
just a reminder, though: i was thirty years old at the time. i probably shouldn't have been so reliant on needing an id. anyways...
